Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join our diverse and passionate team in Limerick. This role entails full ownership of a platform domain related to cloud-native infrastructure, including Kubernetes/OpenShift, multiple cloud providers, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and developer productivity enhancements. You will serve as the technical authority within your domain, shaping architecture, ensuring reliability, and setting strategic roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of a specific platform domain, such as CI/CD, observability, or cloud infrastructure, overseeing architecture, reliability, and strategic planning.
• Design and architect resilient, multi-tenant platform services that balance cloud-provider-specific features with portability.
• Lead the creation and implementation of golden-path tooling that demonstrably improves developer productivity.
• Establish service reliability goals, manage error budgets, and lead incident responses and blameless postmortems.
• Develop AI-ready infrastructure components including GPU/inference capacity and model-serving or vector database capabilities.
• Promote AI-assisted engineering within your domain by integrating AI-driven tools into the developer experience.
• Implement and enforce security and compliance policies appropriate for a regulated payments environment, including policy-as-code and tenant isolation.
• Mentor platform engineers and associates, provide design reviews, and guide technical discussions.
• Communicate your domain’s technical viewpoints across teams and resolve conflicts through reasoned technical arguments.
• Identify and automate repetitive tasks to reduce toil and defects continuously.
• Adhere strictly to corporate policies, including the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

Technical Environment

• Expertise in Gen AI infrastructure involving model-serving and vector databases.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift including autoscaling and operator pattern usage.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, focusing on reusable modules and policy enforcement.
• Experienced in cloud platforms, with deep expertise in a primary cloud provider and familiarity with additional providers.
• Ownership and development of CI/CD pipelines and golden-path tooling within platform domains.
• Designing observability solutions using logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts.
• Experience with service meshes and platform-level network and security architectures.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 8 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, cloud or platform engineering, including independently managing a platform domain.
• Exceptional critical thinking abilities to clarify decisions and weigh technical trade-offs under uncertainty.
• Strong systems thinking to understand platform domain interactions with broader ecosystems.
• Deep familiarity with SaaS models, cloud-native architectures, Linux, networking, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience designing and operating resilient, multi-tenant, cloud-native platforms.
• Advanced hands-on expertise with Kubernetes or OpenShift in production environments.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, including automation and module design.
• Extensive experience in modern CI/CD architectures, pipelines, and developer enablement methods.
• Competence in designing observability for production services with effective monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of security, governance, and compliance implementation in enterprise or regulated sectors.
• Demonstrated leadership in technical reviews, mentoring, and guiding without formal authority.
• Strong communication skills for technical explanation to diverse audiences.
• Experience managing incident response and conducting thorough reviews of production issues.

Preferred Expertise

• Ownership of platform domains including CI/CD, observability, cloud infrastructure, or container platforms from an architecture and roadmap perspective.
• Design and implementation of internal developer platforms and self-service tooling enhancing developer productivity.
• Advanced Kubernetes/OpenShift features such as autoscaling, operators, admission controls, and multi-tenancy.
• Expertise with policy-as-code, tenant isolation, DevSecOps tools, and automated governance.
• Familiarity with service mesh technology and platform-level network/security system design.
• Experience with multi-cloud provider environments and designing portable cloud deployments.
• Knowledge of FinOps, cloud cost management, and automated consumption governance.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and AI-ready infrastructure technologies like model serving, GPUs, and vector databases.
• Prior work in regulated industries such as payments or financial services.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers into platform engineering roles.
