Role Overview
This strategic position within Gleeds' Southampton office and South regional Built Asset Solutions team demands a senior professional to steer building surveying projects, grow the project portfolio, and strengthen market presence. The Associate Director will lead commissions, advise clients on sophisticated asset matters, and cultivate the team's capabilities and culture to ensure sustainable success.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee a diverse range of building surveying projects across various client asset portfolios.
- Establish, nurture, and maintain senior client connections, acting as a reliable advisor on strategic property and asset issues.
- Drive regional expansion by sourcing new business, securing assignments, and executing projects.
- Mentor and develop junior staff members, fostering their growth and leadership potential.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a chartered building surveyor with strong commercial awareness and a proactive, people-oriented approach to relationships both internally and externally. Expertise in project design, specifications, and contract administration, alongside comprehensive understanding of construction contracts, is essential.
- Substantial experience leading complex building surveying tasks and managing senior clients.
- Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and securing new work.
- Sound commercial judgement balancing excellent client service with company objectives.
- Ability to credibly engage with senior stakeholders and represent the company professionally.
- A collaborative leadership style that supports and encourages team members.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive post-MRICS qualification experience in Building Surveying.
- Thorough knowledge of construction procurement methods, including tendering and contract approaches.
- Hands-on familiarity with building contracts.
- Excellent communication, organizational flexibility, and adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, financial acumen, and numerical management skills.
- Capability to function effectively both independently and as a team leader.
- MRICS membership is required.
