Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship Programme
Murphy offers an apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying in Ireland starting August 2027, providing an alternative pathway into construction and commercial management by blending hands-on work experience with formal academic study. This earn-and-learn program equips apprentices with essential commercial, financial, and contractual knowledge to support infrastructure and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with measurement and valuation of construction work
- Support cost estimates and budget preparation
- Monitor and control project costs
- Review project drawings, specifications, and documentation
- Assist subcontractor administration and procurement
- Prepare progress reports and cost forecasts
- Understand construction contracts and commercial processes
- Manage project changes and variations
- Contribute to interim valuations and payment applications
- Support subcontract agreement preparation and negotiation

Programme Details and Qualification
Apprentices will enroll in an approved college to work toward a recognised Quantity Surveying certification combining academic studies with practical workplace learning. Successful completion leads to a qualification that supports progression to professional membership of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI).
Location and Travel
This apprenticeship involves placements across Ireland, including remote project sites. A willingness to travel frequently and possession of a full, clean driving licence are essential.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum academic requirement: 6 subjects at O6/H7 level including 2 subjects at H5; proficiency in English or Irish at O6/H7; Maths at O6/H7
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
- Good communication skills and ability to work within teams
- A keen interest in construction, commercial management and infrastructure
- No prior experience necessary; a positive attitude and willingness to learn are vital
