About the Role
USIC is seeking dedicated individuals to join as Utility Locators serving the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs, including Glencoe, IL. We are America’s leader in underground utility damage prevention, conducting over 84 million locates annually across multiple utility sectors. This position offers a chance to work independently outdoors while contributing to infrastructure safety and quality. We provide comprehensive training and advancement opportunities for both newcomers and experienced locators.
Primary Duties
- Accurately and safely detect and mark underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
- Carry out thorough searches within assigned zones, document locates meticulously, and photograph the marked areas.
Work Schedule and Requirements
This full-time daytime role may require working the day after holidays and some weekends due to a 48-hour turnaround expectation on many locates. Overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call availability including nights and weekends are necessary based on business demands.
Candidate Profile
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Technologically proficient to use company systems effectively.
- Must pass drug screening as this role is safety-sensitive.
- Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physically able to walk, bend, lift up to 75 lbs, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to distinguish color codes used in utility markings.
- Capable of reading and interpreting locate tickets, maps, and prints.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with coworkers, customers, contractors, and property owners.

- Starting hourly rate from $21.00 up to $33.00 depending on experience.
