About the Role

USIC, recognized nationwide as a leader in underground utility damage prevention, is seeking dedicated Utility Locators for positions located in Glenview, IL, and the surrounding North Shore and Northwest Suburbs. USIC completes over 84 million utility locates annually across telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer networks, serving more than 1,400 utilities and municipalities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently identify and mark the locations of underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Diligently survey assigned areas for underground utilities, document findings accurately, including necessary paperwork and photographic evidence of each locate.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time daytime role with typical 48-hour turnaround requirements for locate requests, which may require working on the day after holidays, some weekends, and overtime. Availability for weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts, including nights, is essential depending on business needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is advantageous.
• Proficiency in handling technology and digital tools required for the role.
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as necessary.
• Must pass a drug screening due to safety-sensitive nature of the position.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Capability to work within confined spaces, and to walk, bend, and lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish color codes used for underground utility identification.
• Competence in reading and interpreting locate tickets, maps, and technical drawings.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners.
