Overview

USIC, a leading name in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services, is hiring Utility Locators to join our team in Northbrook, IL, serving the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs. Known nationally for conducting over 84 million locates annually for many telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities, USIC values quality, safety, and innovation in protecting critical infrastructure.

Role and Responsibilities

• Precisely and safely identify and mark underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems in designated areas.
• Complete thorough documentation and take photographs of each locating job to ensure accuracy and accountability.
• Work independently in the field using company-provided vehicles equipped with advanced technology and ticket management systems.
• Maintain a fast-paced work schedule including potential overtime, weekend, on-call, and holiday shifts, due to a typical 48-hour turnaround requirement for locates.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Capable and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; prior outdoor experience is advantageous.
• Comfortable using modern technology and able to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and prints effectively.
• Available for overtime, weekend, and on-call shifts when business needs arise.
• Must pass a drug screening test, as this position involves safety-sensitive duties.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean and safe driving record.
• Physically able to work in confined spaces and perform activities involving walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish colors used in wiring and marking underground utilities.
• Possess clear communication skills to interact with colleagues, clients, contractors, and homeowners professionally.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting hourly pay ranges from $21.00 for new locators up to $33.00 for individuals with significant locating experience.
