Job Overview

The Toolmaker/Dimensional Finisher position involves finishing tools, fixtures, and equipment primarily used in robotic and automated assembly lines for automotive manufacturing. The role requires final line integration and precise tooling adjustments to achieve proper part fit. Understanding Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) reports to analyze tooling geometry is a key asset in performing necessary evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, building, or modifying new and existing tooling and fixtures for automated system lines.
• Inspect, measure, debug, and layout equipment and tools like hemmers and fixtures to ensure correct operation.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and test tools and fixtures as needed.
• Analyze Body-In-White (BIW) measurement reports including CMM data.
• Create clear product rework instructions.
• Verify results of internal and external modifications.
• Confirm dimensional accuracy and consistency of stamping and assembly components during manufacturing.
• Determine root causes of issues by evaluating measurement data and manually checking panel and fixture fit.
• Address quality issues and develop countermeasures to resolve them.
• Provide guidance and training to Tool & Die Apprentices.
• Communicate shift-to-shift updates and essential information to program management and colleagues.
• Perform all tasks safely, including proper lockout of energy sources and use of personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and product quality.
• Report unusual situations and participate actively in continuous improvements.
• Adhere to ISO standard operating procedures to ensure the delivery of world-class products.
• Fulfill any additional related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Certification as a Tool and Die Maker or equivalent recognized qualification.
• At least 5 years of experience in automotive assembly, tooling, or assembly systems.
• Working knowledge of mechanical department machinery and equipment.
• Preferred familiarity with stampings and hemming processes.
• Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, specifications, and tolerances.
• Competency in evaluating cosmetic appearance of inner and outer panels and understanding GD&T specifications.
• Skilled in documenting panel changes clearly and effectively.
• Strong communication and organizational capabilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of welding, hemming, and gluing processes.
• Possession of personal toolset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
• Capability to manage multiple trade tasks simultaneously.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and PowerPoint preferred.
• Valid travel documents (passport) and capacity to travel nationally and internationally.

Compensation

The pay rate for this role ranges between $35.46 and $43.50 per hour.
