Gauging Engineer

About the Role

This position offers an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned Engineer specializing in gauging, measurements, or calibration within a large-scale engineering environment. The Gauging Engineer provides expert technical support to manufacturing processes, focusing on measurement equipment in production gauging, while developing automated manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and approve measurement programs for automated measurement systems, including 3D structured light technology such as Zeiss Scanbox and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
• Design and implement tooling and fixtures tailored to manufacturing needs.
• Lead the development and integration of new advanced manufacturing machinery and automation techniques.
• Assist in preparing capital funding proposals to support new equipment acquisitions.
• Drive cost reduction initiatives and enhance existing manufacturing processes.
• Create and maintain all relevant documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Equipment Maintenance Schedules (EMSs), and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) related to production gauging and automated operations.
• Support compliance with NADCAP requirements for controlled manufacturing equipment.
• Mentor colleagues in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and automation practices.
• Identify and facilitate the adoption of emerging manufacturing technologies.
• Manage program storage, data backups, and document revision control for manufacturing equipment software.
• Implement and uphold Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) standards.

Requirements and Desired Skills

• Possess at least a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
• Accumulate a minimum of five years of experience in an engineering-focused role.
• Familiarity with 3D structured light measurement technologies.
• Hands-on experience programming CMMs, preferably using Renishaw Modus software.
• Background in aerofoil inspection processes.
• Capability in troubleshooting mechanical systems including pneumatics, tooling, and measurement feedback mechanisms.
• Knowledgeable in automation systems and their integration into manufacturing.
• Strong comprehension of engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
• Experience in designing tooling and fixtures for production environments.

Working Hours

The role operates during typical daytime hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary is competitive and approximately £45,000 annually, adjusted based on the candidate's credentials and experience.
