Company and Role Overview
Join GHD Advisory, a company committed to enabling sustainable commercial results for clients involved in the water, energy, and urbanisation sectors. We are focused on supporting resilience, growth, and sustainability through complex challenges from initial capital deployment to asset management.
We seek a dedicated Technical Director for our Generator Connection Studies Team to operate primarily from our Melbourne or Brisbane office. You will play an essential role in Australia's energy transition, helping clients achieve their decarbonisation ambitions through our Future Energy initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to improve commercial returns by appropriately scoping, pricing, managing the delivery quality, and negotiating variations on assignments.
- Drive growth in our generator connection studies practice with a special focus on the Australian and New Zealand power sectors.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentoring to team members specializing in generator connections and power systems.
- Produce detailed reports for clients, network companies, and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
- Collaborate as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver forward-looking energy solutions.
- Coordinate with colleagues across Australia and internationally to support a diverse range of renewable energy initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Qualifications in electrical engineering supported by a strong academic background.
- Extensive experience in generator connections and power system analysis, preferably with exposure to Australian projects.
- Passion for mentoring junior engineers and fostering their development.
- Proven ability to independently manage substantial, challenging projects with consistent successful outcomes.
- Proficiency in power systems software including PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and MATLAB.
- Advanced programming skills in Fortran and Python.
- Understanding and experience with grid forming and virtual grid technologies.
- Knowledgeable in Australian National Electricity Rules and relevant international standards.
- Experienced in performing load flow, short circuit analysis, dynamic studies, and ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) simulations.
- Familiarity with the generator connection process within the National Electricity Market (NEM).
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction.
