Job description

About Snowflake

Snowflake is driving the next generation of agentic enterprise software, aiming to revolutionize the future of work by embedding AI as an integral collaborator in all functions. We value individuals who combine curiosity with humility, thrive in fast-paced, adaptive settings, and experiment rapidly with emerging technologies to improve outcomes.

Role Overview

We are seeking Software Engineers to join our Data Platform team to enhance Snowflake's real-time stream processing and data transformation infrastructure. Candidates with a background in designing high-throughput streaming systems or scalable data transformation engines, acquired through either industry experience or academic research, are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop low-latency streaming and in-flight data transformation solutions capable of operating at a global scale.
  • Ensure the correctness and efficiency of streaming execution including handling watermarks, guaranteeing exactly-once delivery, and managing out-of-order events.
  • Develop reliable transformation primitives and operators optimized for cloud-scale throughput.
  • Participate in strategic architectural discussions to shape the next generation of streaming and transformation platforms.
  • Implement robust production-quality system code and collaborate with cross-functional product and engineering teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in Computer Science or a related discipline; candidates with graduate research in streaming, distributed systems, or query/transformation engines are preferred.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems covering fault tolerance, consistency, and state management.
  • Hands-on experience or theoretical knowledge of stream processing or transformation frameworks such as Flink, Kafka Streams, or Spark Structured Streaming.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Java, Scala, C++, or Python.
  • Exposure to AI-driven software engineering and agentic development workflows is an advantage.

Additional Advantages

  • Research publications or theses focused on streaming, real-time transformations, or distributed computing.
  • Experience working with internal components of stream processing engines such as state backends, checkpointing mechanisms, runtimes, or operator development within Apache Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge about SQL engine internals including query optimization, execution plan design, storage formats, and transaction handling.
  • Familiarity with Spec Driven Development (SDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD) methodologies.
  • Understanding of formal verification techniques.

Additional Information

Snowflake is expanding rapidly and seeks motivated professionals who share our core values, challenge conventional approaches, and accelerate innovation while shaping their careers and the company’s future.

Positions are based in Berlin, Germany, with a full-time, onsite employment arrangement. For jobs located in the USA, salary and benefits details are available through Snowflake's careers portal.
