Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, Architects, and Product teams to develop high-quality Nuix products that serve our business and customers effectively. The role primarily focuses on building software applications using Java and related technologies.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is located in Nuix’s Sydney office and requires attendance at the office at least three days a week. The remaining two days may be worked remotely or from the office, at the employee's discretion.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of significant feature and epic delivery, including design, development, testing, and deployment phases.
• Champion awareness of non-functional requirements such as security, performance, and DevOps, ensuring adherence to architectural principles.
• Conduct detailed and pragmatic code reviews for complex pull requests, emphasizing secure-by-design standards and addressing security concerns.
• Establish and refine coding best practices and help maintain and improve quality assurance gates.
• Participate actively in architectural discussions by challenging approaches, asking insightful questions, and contributing to future target states.
• Promote collaboration within the team and communicate effectively across different teams and geographic locations.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to mid-level, associate, and graduate engineers.
• Contribute to the design, evaluation, and deployment of AI agents and agentic capabilities within the platform.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Typically more than seven years of professional software engineering experience with a proven ability to deliver complex projects end-to-end.
• Strong expertise in backend Java development with experience in the Spring framework; full-stack skills including React and TypeScript are highly valued.
• Familiarity with Python and collaboration experience with data scientists on model-backed components is a plus.
• Experience working with containerized applications, cloud environments, and on-premises deployment using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS is desirable.
• Interest or prior experience in AI, large language model (LLM) backed features, agents, or natural language processing/document intelligence is highly advantageous.
• Recognized as a subject matter expert in at least one technical area; able to communicate clearly; and serve as a positive mentoring presence within a distributed team.
