Senior Software Development Manager - Relational Database Services

Role Overview

The console is the primary interface where customers engage with Amazon RDS and AWS operators maintain service health continuously. We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager based in Dublin to oversee the comprehensive customer experience including the AWS Console and CloudFormation integration for RDS. This leadership role encompasses both the external customer console and the internal operations console used by AWS staff to manage one of the largest managed database infrastructures globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic vision for the RDS console, covering both customer-facing and internal operations platforms.
• Lead integration of advanced agentic AI features to provide intelligent assistance, contextual insights, and automate safe, scoped actions for customers and internal operators.
• Design and deliver a modernized internal operations console to replace outdated tools, enhancing operator efficiency.
• Manage and expand multiple engineering teams, including hiring and mentoring managers and senior engineers.
• Enhance console usability, accessibility, performance, and safety throughout the RDS platform.
• Collaborate closely with AWS Console, product, design, and RDS platform teams to ensure a unified and top-tier user experience.
• Communicate console and operator strategies to senior AWS leadership, aligning stakeholders on long-term plans.

Typical Workday

Your day may begin with reviewing prototypes of agentic assistants integrated into the customer console, focusing on safety and transparency. You would coordinate with teams planning the phase-out of legacy tools and the adoption of new consoles during live operational events. The afternoon might include coordination with AWS Console and design partners on UI patterns, managing hiring pipelines, and collaborating on the architecture strategy for an AI-native console platform.

Basic Qualifications

• Substantial experience in software engineering.
• Proven track record of managing engineering teams.
• Experience designing, planning, developing, and delivering consumer software products.
• History of collaboration with product and program management teams.
• Capability to manage multiple programs and teams concurrently within an Agile framework.

Preferred Qualifications

• In-depth experience in partnership with product and program management.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing large-scale, high-traffic applications.
