Senior Software Development Engineer, Aurora PostgreSQL

About the Role

Join the team developing Amazon Aurora's PostgreSQL-compatible relational database engine, which delivers exceptional performance and availability at a fraction of the cost of commercial databases. You will contribute to building highly scalable distributed database systems operating across thousands of servers and multiple data centers worldwide, strongly impacting hundreds of thousands of AWS customers.

Key Responsibilities

This hands-on position involves designing, implementing, and owning critical system software components for cloud database services. You will work on building robust features, leading architecture and design efforts for new and existing systems, and mentoring fellow engineers. The role demands active participation in all phases of software development, including fostering customer focus and leadership.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have experience mentoring or leading engineering teams, designing system architecture emphasizing reliability and scalability, and delivering complex software solutions. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C# with object-oriented design experience is expected. Professional software development experience, excluding internships, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in computer science or related field is desirable. Familiarity with software development life cycles, coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations is preferred. Knowledge in system performance optimization, memory management, and parallel computing concepts is a plus.
