Senior Principal Structural Engineer

Overview

The Senior Principal Structural Engineer role involves tackling complex and unique challenges that significantly impact business operations. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct conceptual, FEED, and detailed structural analyses and designs aligned with design bases, project specifications, codes, and standards.
• Utilize extensive business knowledge and advanced skills to address complex, nonstandard engineering issues.
• Produce precise detailed design calculations, reports, and procedural documents.
• Manage own workload effectively and forecast resources when leading engineering teams.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to persuade stakeholders.
• As Lead Engineer, oversee medium to large engineering teams and manage discipline engineering design within schedule and budget constraints, adhering to standards and project procedures.
• Plan, organize, and control all aspects of discipline execution including scope, deliverables, schedules, and manpower in coordination with the Discipline Manager.
• Identify and maintain interfaces and deliverables, ensuring progress and productivity with corrective actions as needed.
• Represent the discipline during project meetings and liaise with customers and relevant agencies.
• Mentor and train department employees, support other project offices, and foster cross-discipline collaboration.
• Maintain understanding of other engineering disciplines, construction/fabrication yard, and client requirements.
• Provide commercial insights and contribute to departmental knowledge systems such as Unifi.
• Prepare bids, supervise engineers and designers, define engineering and fabrication scopes, perform engineering checks and design verifications, prepare material take-offs, specifications, and subcontracts.
• Review vendor data, assist with technical bid evaluations, and contribute to departmental advancement.

Specialist Engineering Tasks

• Coordinate and review work of senior and junior engineers including peer reviews.
• Provide technical expertise and prepare specialized structural analyses and reports encompassing architectural designs, underground piping, complex structures, and weight control assessments.
• Maintain specialization in multiple fields such as geotechnical, steel, concrete, dynamic and fatigue analysis, seismic, jackets, FPSOs, blasts, hydrodynamics, and architectural structures.
• Expertise in multiple design codes including EC, ACI/AISC/API, GOST, among others.
• Validate designs for operational needs, constructability, and maintainability.
• Develop project engineering guidelines.

Lead Engineer Duties

• Lead engineering and design on medium to large EPC projects, managing costs, materials, and progress.
• Work closely with the Design Coordinator and Project Manager to prepare deliverable controls, schedules, progress and capital expenditure reports.
• Train supervised personnel and manage engineering subcontracts.
• Handle scope changes and maintain engineering documentation and workflow feedback.

Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to lead engineers, project engineering or project managers, and supervising department managers. Interfaces include all engineering disciplines, construction/fabrication groups, safety, project management, document control, planning, cost control, quality control, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, and customers. Supervises senior engineers, engineers, and designers.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering.
• Minimum 20 years of oil and gas industry experience with major contractors or consultancies, focused on detailed design.
• Preferably a Registered Professional Engineer or member of a relevant professional engineering society.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, specifications, and software.
• Ability to work autonomously with strong organizational, motivational, and supervisory skills.
• Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
• Commitment to HSE, total quality management, and cost-efficiency.
• Strong technical structural knowledge and flexibility to adapt across departments, sites, and projects.
