Role Overview
The Principal Consultant in Data & Analytics will lead both technical delivery and client engagements, shaping impactful solutions that align with business goals. This permanent full-time position is onsite in Wellington. Candidates must be New Zealand citizens; holding relevant New Zealand Security Clearances is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with sales and account teams to develop proposals and design solutions during pre-sales activities.
- Conduct client presentations and solution demonstrations highlighting value and unique differentiators.
- Recognize and pursue opportunities to upsell and broaden services within existing accounts.
- Lead workshops to gather and clarify requirements from stakeholders.
- Architect, design, and deliver modern data platform solutions tailored to client needs.
- Offer strategic guidance on data analytics, integration methods, and effective AI utilization within data platforms.
- Optimize data platform performance through tuning, audits, and enhancement features.
- Produce comprehensive documentation, conduct end-user training, and transfer knowledge to clients and internal teams.
- Mentor junior developers and act as a subject matter expert in data platform architectures and data modeling.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven track record engaging senior stakeholders and influencing purchasing decisions.
- Strong experience in pre-sales solution development, proposal creation, and client presentations.
- Commercial insight with capability to connect technical solutions to business value.
- Advanced abilities in designing and implementing data solutions using cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Expertise with data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, and Databricks.
- In-depth knowledge of ETL/ELT architectures using tools like Synapse Analytics, Fabric Data Factory, Snowflake, Coalesce, Fivetran, Matillion, dbt, and AWS Glue.
- Advanced competence in various data modeling methodologies: conceptual, logical, physical, and techniques like ER, Dimensional, Object-Oriented, NoSQL, and Data Vault.
- Experience in Python development within modern data platforms.
- Familiarity with Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) or on-premises Informatica solutions.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in enterprise data warehouse (EDW) design and implementation.
- Minimum 8 years’ expertise in ETL architecture and design.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in data modeling practices.
- At least 5 years involved with semantic layer development.
- 3+ years of experience in Power BI architecture design.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in pre-sales solutioning, commercial proposals, and client presentation engagements.

Additional Information
This role requires New Zealand citizenship with desirable security clearance status. The role is based onsite in Wellington and is a permanent full-time position at Datacom's Professional Services division specializing in data and AI technology platforms.
