Job description

Overview

Northpower is seeking a skilled and motivated Overhead Supervisor to lead its field teams in the safe and efficient maintenance and construction of electricity networks. This pivotal role involves direct oversight of site activities, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and quality delivery of power infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor line crews while instilling a safety-first mindset and ensuring adherence to high standards of work quality and efficiency.
  • Assist in project planning, job scoping, cost estimating, and development of safe work methods.
  • Conduct thorough pre-job risk assessments, daily briefings, and prepare work sites to promote safety and operational readiness.
  • Monitor and manage project progress, quality control, productivity metrics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, contractors, and resources for seamless project execution.
  • Ensure accurate completion of testing, documentation, reporting, and GIS data entry within stipulated deadlines.
  • Support network switching operations as needed and maintain robust relationships with customers, internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives in safety practices, quality assurance, and operational performance while complying with HSQE standards and relevant legislation.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience managing line crews in the electricity distribution sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of LV/HV distribution networks and zone substations.
  • Relevant certifications including National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution Level 4 or Live Work Level 5) or National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Possession of a current practising license appropriate to the role and current Workplace Competencies (WTCs).
  • Valid New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence; Class 2 or 4 licenses are advantageous.
  • Strong familiarity with industry legislation, codes of practice, standards, and the Electricity Industry Safety Manual (SM-EI).
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills alongside proficient communication to foster relationships and teamwork.
  • Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A steadfast commitment to maintaining superior customer service without compromising on safety or quality.
