Job description

Role Overview

Northpower is seeking a Tree Officer to join its Vegetation team. This position is vital in ensuring the safety and reliability of the electricity network by managing vegetation near power lines, collaborating with landowners and customers, and supporting field crews to achieve top-quality results.

Key Duties

  • Conduct patrols of network areas to detect vegetation risks.
  • Negotiate agreements with property owners concerning tree management.
  • Issue notices and quotes related to vegetation control.
  • Ensure adherence to the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations 2003.
  • Assist with workplace audits, work scheduling, and training/coaching of field staff.
  • Promote and uphold safe work practices across the organization.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Arboriculture qualifications.
  • Certificate in Electrical Supply (Vegetation Control) or willingness to obtain it.
  • Experience working around electrical distribution networks.
  • Proficiency with chainsaw operation.
  • Strong understanding of arboriculture and vegetation management methods.
  • Familiarity with the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations 2003.
  • Valid full New Zealand driver's license; heavy vehicle license is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Competent computer and administrative skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to safety.
  • Ability to cultivate strong partnerships with customers, landowners, contractors, and team members.
