Job description

Overview

Jacobs is dedicated to tackling pressing global challenges by innovating for a better tomorrow across diverse sectors, including thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, and cutting-edge manufacturing. We invite you to be part of a team transforming visionary ideas into impactful realities.

Role Purpose

We are expanding our Data Centre division and seeking a seasoned Modular Data Centre and Prefabrication Lead to spearhead and enhance our modular design capabilities across the Asia Pacific region. This role involves fostering a unified strategy for modularisation and prefabrication, uniting design, manufacturing, procurement, and construction elements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the APAC modularisation and prefabrication strategy for data centre initiatives.
  • Identify early-stage opportunities for off-site manufacturing, preassembly, and modular construction within design phases.
  • Champion Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary requirements including electrical, mechanical, CSA, BIM, fire, controls, commissioning, and construction teams.
  • Ensure design solutions accommodate manufacturing tolerances, transportation, site installation, maintenance, and replacement logistics.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with modular manufacturers, OEMs, fabricators, and system integrators.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, manufacturing capacities, quality assurance processes, and delivery risks.
  • Create standardized details, specifications, design guides, BIM assets, and modular reference models to support repeatability.
  • Guide projects through design, procurement, fabrication, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), logistics, installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Prepare business cases contrasting modular with conventional construction approaches.
  • Adapt modular solutions to comply with local codes, certifications, and construction norms specific to the APAC region.
  • Contribute to client engagement, develop technical proposals, and facilitate early project workshops.
  • Support growth of modular design expertise within Jacobs through training, mentorship, and guidance initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess extensive experience related to data centres or critical mission engineering, particularly in modular data centre manufacturing, prefabricated electrical or mechanical systems, skid or equipment fabrication, industrialized construction, systems integration, or data centre construction projects.

Relevant industry experience in modular manufacturing, OEM roles, specialist contracting, or systems integration is highly valued. A purely consulting background is not mandatory, provided there is demonstrable technical knowledge and a strong grasp of manufacturing and construction processes.

Preferred Expertise

  • Modular electrical rooms and medium/low voltage distribution systems.
  • UPS, battery backup, and generator power systems.
  • Cooling systems, especially liquid cooling technologies.
  • Manufactured pipework, equipment skids, and integrated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) modules.
  • Implementation of DfMA and integration of modular designs into project workflows.
  • Quality management in manufacturing and experience with Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Vendor relationship management, logistics coordination, and installation scheduling.
  • Commissioning procedures and cross-disciplinary design coordination.
  • Collaboration across project teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure delivery.
  • Supplier capability assessments and risk evaluation related to manufacturing and quality systems.
  • Creation of scalable design solutions, detailed guides, and BIM content.
  • Engagement in client discussions, proposal development, workshops, and professional mentoring.
