Your Role and Impact
Join our Jacobs Studies team as a Senior or Associate Earthing Engineer within New Zealand, contributing to complex projects nationally and internationally. This position provides an opportunity to deepen your expertise in earthing within the high voltage (HV) sector alongside a specialized and respected team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive earthing analyses and designs, including Earthing & Bonding, Lightning Performance, Earth Potential Rise (EPR), Low Frequency Induction (LFI), Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF), and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
- Lead and produce detailed technical deliverables utilizing tools such as CDEGS and PSCAD software.
- Serve as technical lead on projects by performing thorough reviews and supporting adherence to quality and technical standards.
- Contribute to business development by assisting with bids and collaborating with Client Account Managers to foster new client opportunities.
- Guide and support junior engineers to enhance the team's proficiency in earthing and electromagnetic-related studies.
- Perform field activities including site inspections, soil resistivity testing, current injection tests, and EMF/EMI measurements.
- Work alongside Project Managers and Section Leaders to ensure technically robust and commercially viable project results.
- Maintain strong client relationships across public and private sectors.
- Engage in occasional team leadership duties such as workload balancing, mentoring, staff development conversations, onboarding, and team engagement (approximately 10-15% of role), though this is not mandatory.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience delivering earthing studies in sectors including substations, transmission, rail, water, mining, airports, and critical industrial infrastructure.
- Proficient use of industry-standard software such as CDEGS and PSCAD.
- Exemplary technical report writing and strong communication abilities, with aptitude in stakeholder management.
- Firm commitment to quality assurance, risk control, and delivery of high-standard technical outputs.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers within a collaborative team atmosphere.
- A cooperative and team-oriented approach suited to working within global delivery frameworks.
- Readiness to engage in fieldwork and various on-site testing exercises as needed.
- Prior team leadership or people management experience is advantageous but not essential; leadership involvement offers opportunities to contribute to workload planning, coordination, staff development, and broader leadership within the ANZ region.
