About the Role
At Jacobs, we are transforming challenges into innovative solutions that shape resilient cities, advance critical environments, and fuel scientific progress. We are currently looking for a Primary Substation Designer to join our expanding Energy & Power division in Australia. This role will focus on the design and layout of major Transmission and Distribution substations up to 500kV within our APAC regional projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in client-facing design initiatives, including workshops, design reviews, and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) engagements.
- Manage and coordinate integrated design inputs across multiple global offices as part of our Global Integrated Delivery approach.
- Develop and maintain BIM Execution Plans covering Revit model setup, standard definitions, model coordination, and lifecycle management.
- Lead and contribute to 2D drafting and 3D/BIM digital modeling activities.
- Serve as Lead Drafter or Design Lead within multidisciplinary project teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.
- Advance BIM-driven delivery processes and support Jacobs’ digital delivery value proposition.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience as a primary substation designer, with expertise in primary plant, civil, or structural components within the power and utilities sector.
- Proven track record in delivering substation and transmission line projects is highly advantageous.
- Leadership or coordination experience managing design teams, including those working with distributed or remote/offshore teams.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D, MicroStation, and Autodesk Revit (specifically SDS BIM Substation tools).
- Ability to extract Bills of Materials (BOM) from intelligent BIM models.
- Confidence and experience engaging in client-facing roles, technical discussions, and workshop participation.
