About the Role

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is seeking a dedicated Meter Reader to join their Operational team based in the South East Hub. This permanent position involves accurately collecting water meter readings according to the field operations schedule to ensure customers receive prompt and correct billing, thus minimizing complaints or unnecessary contacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect water meter readings using handheld devices within assigned cyclical schedules.
  • Transmit gathered data accurately and timely through handheld units.
  • Identify and note any irregular meter readings indicating abnormal consumption patterns as per automated meter reading protocols.
  • Provide explanations when meters cannot be read within the scheduled timeframe.
  • Organize meter reading routes efficiently to optimize meter coverage.
  • Conduct non-cyclical meter readings per automated system orders within set deadlines.
  • Disconnect water supplies at commercial properties as directed by the Commercial Collections Department.
  • Perform supply checks on properties disconnected for non-payment, promptly reporting any reconnections to the relevant team.
  • Adopt best operational practices to support department KPIs on meter reading.
  • Foster effective collaboration with operational partners across the organization to achieve shared goals.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments for each field visit to maintain safety standards.
  • Report all potential hazards or near misses following company health and safety procedures.
  • Regularly inspect company vehicles, escalating any defects as per transportation policies.
  • Utilize the Lone Working system continuously according to company guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support business needs.

About You

  • Possess a full UK driving license with no disqualifications or serious convictions; any penalty points must be declared.
  • Experienced in resolving issues on the first attempt to support performance goals.
  • Customer-focused with enthusiasm for delivering excellent service daily.
  • Resident in or near the Monmouth area to facilitate operational efficiency.
  • Physically fit to undertake extensive walking across diverse terrain in various weather conditions.

Working Hours and Conditions

  • 37 hours per week with flexible scheduling between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday through Sunday.
  • Minimum of four hours work required on weekdays to ensure operational coverage.
  • Company vehicle provided.
