Meter Reader

Role Overview

This position involves capturing accurate water meter readings following the Field Operations schedule to ensure customers receive correct and timely bills, minimizing complaints. You will also perform ad hoc field visits for disconnecting water supplies or gathering additional data to resolve queries.

Key Duties

• Collect water meter readings using handheld devices according to the cyclical meter reading timetable.
• Transmit captured meter data via handheld units promptly.
• Note and report unusual meter readings reflecting fluctuating water consumption in line with company guidelines.
• Provide reasons for unreadable meters in adherence to Automated Meter Reading protocols.
• Organize meter reading routes efficiently to maximize coverage.
• Conduct non-scheduled meter readings as directed and within established deadlines.
• Disconnect water supplies on commercial premises as instructed by the Commercial Collections team.
• Perform checks on disconnected supplies to detect unauthorized reconnections and report immediately.
• Support departmental Key Performance Indicator targets through best operational practices.
• Collaborate effectively with operational colleagues across departments to meet shared objectives.
• Complete dynamic risk assessments at every field visit to maintain a safe working environment.
• Report all safety incidents or hazards complying with company safety procedures.
• Regularly inspect company vehicle condition and promptly report defects following transport policies.
• Ensure continuous contact by logging into the Lone Working system as per guidelines.
• Carry out any additional tasks necessary to fulfill business requirements.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a full UK driving licence without disqualifications; penalty points must be declared and evaluated during recruitment.
• Ability to resolve issues on first contact to support company performance goals.
• Genuinely customer-focused and enthusiastic to provide excellent service daily.

Working Hours and Location

• Role demands 37 hours weekly with flexible shifts between 06:00 and 20:00, Monday to Sunday, subject to agreement.
• Minimum of 4 hours weekday work required to maintain operational coverage.
• Candidate must reside within 10 miles of Conwy valley/Colwyn Bay areas to ensure efficiency.
• Physical fitness is essential due to extensive walking across varied terrain and weather conditions.
