About The Role
Northpower seeks a seasoned Cable Jointer to become part of our Contracting division. This is a practical, hands-on position focused on crucial electrical infrastructure where you will install, service, and repair underground electrical networks up to 33kV voltage.
You will work within a capable and supportive team across various locations, contributing to the continuous connection of communities and businesses. This role presents diverse tasks, opportunities to enhance your skills, and involvement in pivotal projects with meaningful community impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, replace, and maintain underground electrical distribution components
- Perform cable jointing and terminations at voltages up to and including 33kV
- Operate electrical equipment and assist with excavation and site restoration activities
- Identify and resolve faults and technical challenges on-site
- Uphold high standards in maintaining tools, equipment, and personal protective gear
- Execute all duties safely, efficiently, and according to industry regulations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, clients, and team members
- Participate in an after-hours standby schedule
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an NZ-registered Cable Jointer with a commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and teamwork. Enjoying outdoor work, problem-solving, and supporting the continuous operation of New Zealand’s power infrastructure are essential.
Requirements
- Current NZ Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) registration and practising licence
- Full Class 2 New Zealand driver’s licence
- Preferably minimum two years of cable jointing experience after qualification
- Experience in underground distribution networks involving voltages of 400V, 11kV, and 22kV
- Excavation experience is beneficial though not mandatory
- Strong capability in fault diagnosis and problem resolution
- Keen attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Proactive approach with emphasis on safety
- Good communication abilities and teamwork skills
