Job description

Job Overview

As a Process Operator, you will be responsible for managing multiple Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTWs) and associated sewage pumping stations within our region, in compliance with environmental permits, quality management systems, and health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment sites according to environmental permits, ensuring protection of the environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and sites while taking effluent samples to enhance biological performance.
  • Detect and address reactive maintenance needs, submit repair requests, and coordinate with multidisciplinary craft teams to facilitate prompt repairs.
  • Identify pollution risks arising from assets, apply preventive measures, and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with Area Supervisor and team members to support operations and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Adhere strictly to personal and colleague safety protocols in line with company Health and Safety policies.
  • Comply with quality management system requirements to sustain audit compliance.
  • Manage site ownership responsibilities including maintaining sanitation standards and quick reporting of defects.
  • Demonstrate eagerness to grow within the role and competently handle multiple sites.
  • Participate in coverage arrangements for colleague absences such as annual leave and sickness.
  • Fulfill on-call duties as part of an out-of-hours standby rota, which is compulsory.
  • Undertake any additional tasks as required to fulfill business needs.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Customer-centric approach with enthusiasm for service quality.
  • Familiarity with regulatory authorities like the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.
  • Competent with computer systems relevant to the role.
  • Passion for environmental conservation and outdoor working.
  • Willingness to function as a team player and complete all necessary training sessions.

Working Conditions

  • Standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Involvement in a one-in-seven weekend rota requiring five hours on both Saturday and Sunday when rostered.
  • Role involves mobile working across various sites within a defined geographical area; no home working is provided.
  • A company vehicle is supplied for official business use.

Compensation

The base annual salary ranges from £28,065 to £31,887. Including participation in the standby rota and up to 260 planned overtime hours, the total potential earnings can increase to between £34,337 and £38,092 per year.
