Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Backend Software Engineer to contribute hands-on leadership in the digital core of an esteemed organisation. This vital role entails overseeing technical strategies and delivering a platform that supports thousands of players, retailers, and tournament organisers globally, enabling large-scale competition.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead the architecture of complex, scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems.
- Take ownership of delivery goals focusing on system reliability, performance, and scalability while choosing appropriate technologies.
- Mentor and uplift engineering teams by promoting ownership, continuous improvement, and high standards of excellence.
- Work closely with Product and Design teams to transform long-range vision into scalable prototypes and MVPs.
- Enhance operational effectiveness by advancing CI/CD practices, DevOps processes, and production-level observability.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated professional experience in senior or lead roles working on contemporary backend systems and APIs.
- Advanced expertise in Python and Django or other comparable high-level programming languages.
- Comprehensive understanding and practical implementation experience of REST and GraphQL APIs optimized for scale.
- Practical knowledge of cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling including AWS, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or AWS CDK.
- Deep familiarity with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, coupled with experience designing distributed architectural solutions.
- Strong communication skills capable of conveying complex technical subjects effectively to technical peers and non-technical stakeholders alike.
