Senior System Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior System Engineer based in Wellington to design, manage, and enhance critical system platforms supporting essential operational and public services. This role involves working with a hybrid environment combining cloud and on-premises infrastructure, driving automation efforts, and maintaining secure and optimized Microsoft Azure and local systems. The position also includes mentoring team members and ensuring adherence to best practices concerning security and system configurations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee secure enterprise systems spanning cloud and on-premises platforms.
• Create, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines utilizing Git-based version control.
• Implement security hardening, manage vulnerabilities, monitor systems, and respond to incidents.
• Administer IIS, including deployment of websites, optimizing performance, and managing SSL certificates.
• Monitor system resources, enhance platform performance, and support daily operational delivery.
• Provide guidance to team members, review technical outputs, and promote clean infrastructure standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• At least five years’ experience managing secure, large-scale enterprise systems.
• Proven expertise with hybrid platforms, especially Microsoft Azure combined with on-premises infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines and using automation tools to enable continuous deployment.
• Strong familiarity with both Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, and fundamental networking concepts.
• Practical skills managing Microsoft IIS environments, web applications, and SSL certificate configurations.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities coupled with clear, collaborative communication.

• This role requires presence in Wellington office at least three days per week.
