Job description
Role Overview
The Director of Engineering spearheads the planning and execution of technology initiatives that underpin the Bank's platform ecosystem. This leadership role focuses on delivering secure, resilient, and high-quality digital applications that enable seamless client interactions across the Canadian banking operations. Acting as a strategic partner to business and product leaders, the Director ensures that engineering efforts are tightly aligned with business priorities and result in robust technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee engineering delivery for core Canadian Banking platform domains, ensuring stability, scalability, and performance.
- Collaborate with Business Leads and enablement teams such as Digital Product, Client Experience, and Operations to craft technical solutions that enhance client experiences.
- Translate strategic roadmaps into actionable technical plans, managing execution from design through deployment and ongoing support.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of engineering projects, coordinating planning, quality assurance, releases, and incident management.
- Promote a client-centric engineering mindset prioritizing value, user experience, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive engineering excellence by fostering best practices in coding standards, architecture, DevOps, continuous integration/delivery, test automation, observability, and incident response.
- Ensure platform resilience through proactive monitoring, rapid issue detection, and comprehensive root cause analysis.
- Lead teams in adherence to the Bank’s risk culture and appetite, embedding operational, compliance, AML/ATF, and conduct risk controls.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Engineering, Applied Science, Technology, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of growing leadership responsibility in IT management, particularly in data, platform, and systems oversight.
- Proven track record delivering complex, large-scale, high-availability digital products.
