About the Team
Global Wealth Banking and Markets Engineering (GWBMT) is an innovative and award-winning technology group that powers Scotiabank's Wealth and Capital Markets businesses. The Platform Engineering team delivers foundational platforms and cloud services to enable rapid, secure, and scalable innovation by application teams. Their portfolio features enterprise Kubernetes platforms across on-premises and Google Cloud, Cloud Enablement, Kafka and Airflow as services, Fine-Grained Access Management, and other developer platforms aimed at accelerating modernization and cloud adoption.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Director to lead Technical Product Management for Platform Engineering & Cloud Services. This senior leadership role will guide product strategy, roadmap, adoption, and delivery of critical enterprise platform products supporting hundreds of engineers and vital applications enterprise-wide. The position bridges technology, product, engineering, and business strategy, responsible for evolving platforms that enhance cloud adoption, application modernization, developer productivity, security, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the strategic vision and lifecycle management for a portfolio of platform engineering products.
- Develop strategies to accelerate cloud adoption, platform standardization, and engineering productivity.
- Identify emerging customer needs and market trends to innovate and evolve platform offerings.
- Set success metrics including adoption goals, customer satisfaction, and business outcomes.
- Prioritize roadmap investments based on business value, engineering impact, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency.
- Advocate for platform consumers across business and enterprise engineering teams, improving onboarding and self-service developer experiences.
- Collaborate with application teams to identify modernization and cloud migration opportunities.
- Lead customer advisory forums and feedback programs to refine platform capabilities.
- Translate strategic goals into clear product roadmaps, capabilities, and delivery plans.
- Work with architects and engineers to define platform services, APIs, user experiences aligned with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance standards.
- Define service models, operating procedures, support frameworks, and service-level objectives (SLOs).
- Promote automation, platform engineering best practices, and enhanced developer experiences.
- Implement service consumption metrics, cost transparency, and platform ROI measures.
- Lead delivery of initiatives from concept through adoption, ensuring agile practices, backlog prioritization, and roadmap governance.
- Manage risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations in a complex enterprise setting.
- Oversee platform reliability, security, operational performance, partnering with SRE, security, and operations teams.
- Drive continual improvements in automation, observability, service health, cost efficiency, and security compliance.
- Provide excellent user experiences across onboarding, documentation, observability, and support.
- Build and maintain strong executive relationships, presenting strategy, progress, and value realization.
- Communicate complex technical topics effectively to diverse audiences.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 10 years in technology roles with at least 5 years in Product Management, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or related infrastructure services.
- Proven leadership in strategizing and delivering large-scale platform products.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, enterprise infrastructure, and application modernization.
- Strong grasp of platform engineering, developer experience, self-service platforms, and product operating models.
- Effective influence and alignment skills with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills.
- Strategic mindset with prioritization and data-driven decision-making abilities.
Technical Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes and container platforms operating in hybrid-cloud environments.
- Experience with public cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, Kafka, streaming platforms, and data infrastructure.
- Understanding of Apache Airflow workflow orchestration and data engineering platforms.
- Knowledge of Identity and Access Management, Role-Based Access Control, fine-grained authorization, and zero trust security principles.
- Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automation, observability, and reliability engineering practices.
- Understanding of platform security, risk management, compliance, and operational resilience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or managing Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and self-service engineering ecosystems.
- Backgrounds in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Architecture, or Software Engineering.
- Proven ability leading enterprise cloud transformations and migrations.
- Experience in financial services, capital markets, or other regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud technologies including GKE, networking, observability, and security.
