Position Overview
This is a 12-month fixed-term assignment primarily based in Napier, with openness to applicants at other WorkSafe locations across New Zealand. Occasional travel to Napier may be required for those not located there. This role supports WorkSafe's mission of ensuring workplace health and safety, focusing on delivering actionable regulatory intelligence within a designated region.
About WorkSafe and the Team
WorkSafe New Zealand is the key regulator for workplace health and safety, underpinned by values of unity (Whakakotahi), meaningful engagement (Kōrero mai), and duty of care (Tiakina mai). The Enterprise Planning and Implementation group, recently established, aims to enhance coordination, planning, and delivery across the organization.
The Regulatory Intelligence team is integral to translating data, operational insights, and information into intelligence products that aid frontline inspectors and leadership in prioritizing and targeting regulatory actions effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze operational data and information to detect risks and emerging trends within the region.
- Create intelligence products that assist in targeted regulatory strategies and prioritization.
- Present complex analytical outcomes in clear, actionable formats for inspectors and regulatory management.
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with inspectors and stakeholders to stay informed on evolving regulatory issues.
- Deliver timely intelligence inputs to support regional regulatory tasks.
- Generate operational reports and dashboards enabling informed decision-making.
- Highlight emerging matters that require broader organizational focus.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative datasets to produce insightful intelligence.
- Excellent critical thinking skills capable of handling incomplete or ambiguous information.
- Demonstrated skill in writing clear, well-structured reports or intelligence briefs.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and respond to diverse stakeholder demands.
- Strong aptitude for building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.
- Prior exposure to intelligence, regulatory, or public sector environments is desirable.
- Possession of or progress toward a relevant qualification in intelligence analysis or a related analytical field is advantageous.
Additional Information
- This role may be open to inter-agency secondments, applicants are encouraged to consult with their managers beforehand.
- Preference will be given to current employees affected by WorkSafe's recent organizational restructuring for similar roles.

Salary and Benefits
The salary band for this position ranges from $83,137 to $108,442 annually, exclusive of KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contributions, which will increase to 3.5% from April 2026.
