Role Overview

In response to Australia and New Zealand's evolving energy landscape, we're inviting a Lead or Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our expanding Power team. This role holds a critical technical leadership position within our ANZ operations, supporting major utility, transmission, renewable energy, industrial, and energy transition initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership and oversight on advanced power system analyses including load flow, fault level, transient stability, EMT, harmonic analysis, protection, and network performance evaluations.
• Steer multidisciplinary project teams to deliver superior technical outcomes while maintaining client satisfaction, budget adherence, and timely project completion.
• Act as a subject matter expert guiding transmission, distribution, and generation projects in Australia and New Zealand.
• Lead development of grid connection strategies along with registration and compliance processes for renewable generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial clients, and emerging energy technologies.
• Function as a trusted advisor cultivating long-term client relationships to support strategic network, generation, and energy transition decisions.
• Perform technical reviews, governance, and quality assurance of power system models, studies, and documentation produced by project teams.
• Mentor and coach junior and intermediate engineers, promoting technical excellence and professional growth within the ANZ Power unit.
• Contribute to business development through proposals, client interactions, and identification of new project opportunities.
• Enhance Worley’s power systems capabilities by developing technical standards and best practices locally and globally.
• Represent Worley as a recognized technical leader at industry forums, working groups, and client meetings.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field; postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
• Possesses significant experience in power systems engineering within utilities, consulting firms, renewable energy development, transmission organizations, or heavy industries.
• Demonstrated capability in leading technical teams and executing complex power system projects from conception through commissioning.
• Expert in power system analysis and simulation tools such as DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, and similar software.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Australian and/or New Zealand power systems, covering transmission, distribution network planning, operations, and grid connection regulations.
• Well-versed with applicable market, regulatory, and technical frameworks including NEM, AEMO, Transpower, EDB, and relevant grid codes and standards.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients, regulators, utilities, and stakeholders on both technical and commercial levels.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a passion for nurturing talent and building high-performing teams.
• Commercial acumen supported by experience in proposals, business development, and client relationship management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, capable of explaining complex technical issues to varied audiences.
