Role Overview

With the evolving energy infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand, we are looking to appoint a Lead or Principal Power Systems Engineer to bolster our ANZ Power team. This pivotal technical leadership role supports major utility, transmission, renewable energy, industrial, and energy transition projects across the region.

You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, leading intricate power system analyses and grid connection initiatives. Additionally, you will mentor and grow engineering talent, and provide technical guidance across multidisciplinary project teams. Your profound knowledge of Australian and/or New Zealand power networks will be key to addressing technical challenges and driving successful project delivery at every phase.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise detailed power system studies including load flow, fault level, transient stability, EMT, harmonic analysis, protection coordination, and network performance assessments.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver superior technical results, ensuring client satisfaction, adherence to budgets, and timeline commitments.
• Provide expertise on transmission, distribution, and generation projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.
• Develop and implement grid connection strategies, manage registration processes, and conduct compliance evaluations for renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, industrial sites, and emerging energy technologies.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, offering strategic advice on network, generation, and energy transition projects.
• Oversee technical review, quality governance, and assurance of power system models, studies, and associated documentation produced by project teams.
• Coach and mentor junior and mid-level engineers to promote technical excellence and enhance team capability within the ANZ Power division.
• Engage in business development efforts including proposal preparation, tender submissions, client engagement, and identification of new business opportunities.
• Contribute to the advancement of Worley’s power systems competencies, establishing technical standards and best practices locally and globally.
• Represent Worley as a technical leader within industry forums, technical working groups, and client workshops.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
• Have substantial experience in power systems engineering within utilities, consulting, renewable energy development, transmission corporations, or heavy industry environments.
• Proven record of directing technical teams and executing complex power system projects from inception through to commissioning.
• Expertise in power system analysis and modeling using DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, or equivalent software tools.
• Deep understanding of Australian and/or New Zealand power systems, including transmission and distribution planning, operations, and grid connection protocols.
• Comprehensive familiarity with related market, regulatory, and technical frameworks such as NEM, AEMO, Transpower, Electricity Distribution Businesses, and applicable grid codes and standards.
• Strong communication and engagement skills for collaboration with clients, regulators, utilities, and project stakeholders at technical and commercial levels.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities with enthusiasm for cultivating team development.
• Commercial acumen with experience supporting proposals, business development, and client relationship management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication aptitude, capable of conveying complex technical information to varied audiences.
