Job description
Role Overview
As Head of Engineering at Sofina Foods Europe, you will lead engineering performance and reliability within a dynamic pork production setting. This pivotal role requires overseeing all engineering and maintenance efforts across the pork processing facility, ensuring optimal equipment functionality, compliance with food safety, health and safety standards, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planned shutdowns for maintenance and upgrades.
- Develop and enforce engineering standards and operational procedures.
- Act as the engineering department's representative in cross-functional meetings.
- Provide on-call technical support to address urgent issues promptly.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the engineering and maintenance teams to foster operational excellence.
Collaboration and Performance Monitoring
You will work closely with production teams, technical specialists, and external vendors to swiftly troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, minimize downtime, and champion continuous improvement initiatives. Monitoring maintenance schedules, calibration activities, and engineering KPIs, reporting outcomes to senior leadership will be integral.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must possess a Level 5 engineering qualification with IOSH certification.
- Prior supervisory experience managing calibration and repairs on production machinery in a similar environment.
- Proficient in maintenance and quality management systems relevant to food manufacturing, including deviation handling, root cause analysis, training, and documentation adherence.
- Capable of independently managing routine workloads with strong organizational skills and task tracking/reporting abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a full modern apprenticeship.
- NEBOSH certification.
- Experience operating within high and low risk environments.

Work Schedule and Location
This full-time position is based onsite at the pork processing site in Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland, with working days Monday through Friday.
