Field Engineer - Mechanical

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Field Engineer to oversee and manage mechanical construction operations for a significant development project located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role involves ensuring that all mechanical installations, tests, and commissioning activities comply with approved design drawings, project specifications, contractual obligations, quality benchmarks, and relevant codes. Collaboration with the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, MEP team, contractors, and other stakeholders is essential to the successful completion of complex building service systems across various structures such as convention centers, hotels, resorts, and mixed-use projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical construction activities and verify their compliance with approved designs, specifications, and contractual terms.
• Oversee installations related to HVAC, chilled water pipelines, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, LPG, fuel systems, and related mechanical utilities.
• Assess contractor-submitted shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, and other technical documentation for mechanical works.
• Confirm that all equipment and materials meet approved standards and project requirements.
• Perform frequent site inspections to maintain superior workmanship and adherence to installation criteria.
• Track contractor progress and performance against project schedules and milestones.
• Coordinate mechanical works with architectural, structural, electrical, and other specialized systems to prevent conflicts.
• Witness and monitor inspections, testing, pressure tests, flushing, balancing, and commissioning tasks.
• Review and respond to Requests for Information, technical clarifications, and field change proposals.
• Implement Quality Assurance and Quality Control protocols for all mechanical construction activities.
• Ensure compliance with international standards, local regulatory requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and project criteria.
• Identify technical challenges, construction hurdles, and non-conformities and propose solutions.
• Verify measurements of completed work for accurate progress reporting and payment certification.
• Support reporting teams with precise updates on project progress.
• Participate actively in project meetings, technical sessions, coordination efforts, and site walkthroughs.
• Enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations throughout mechanical construction efforts.
• Assist in managing snag identification and resolution related to mechanical installations.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, system integration testing, and verification of mechanical systems performance.
• Facilitate operational preparedness, training, and handover processes to clients and system users.
• Maintain detailed records, reports, and project documentation.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
• Have at least 8 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering with construction supervision responsibilities.
• Hold a minimum of 5 years experience specifically as a Mechanical Field Engineer, Site Engineer, or Mechanical Inspector in large-scale building projects.
• Demonstrate experience with convention centers, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, commercial complexes, or similar hospitality-related facilities.
• Prefer candidates with backgrounds in Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy roles.
• Strong familiarity with HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, firefighting systems, and overall mechanical building services.
• Experience conducting reviews of mechanical shop drawings, submittals, method statements, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of international standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IPC, and relevant Saudi codes and regulations.
• Understanding of TAB (Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing), commissioning, and client handover procedures.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems integration and smart building technologies is a plus.
• Experience implementing QA/QC processes and construction site inspection techniques.
• Preferably experienced with projects in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving, analytical, technical, communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
• Membership in a recognized engineering professional body is advantageous.
• Fluency in English required; skills in Arabic are beneficial.
