Risk Engineer

Job Overview

A Risk Engineer plays a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and managing operational, technical, safety, and business risks associated with projects and assets. This role demands conducting detailed risk assessments, proposing preventive strategies, and assisting the organization in maintaining safe, compliant, and dependable operations. Close collaboration with project teams, engineering, operations, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) departments is essential to minimize potential risks and improve risk management processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across projects, facilities, operations, and assets.
• Identify hazards, operational risks, and vulnerabilities affecting safety, reliability, costs, or timelines.
• Apply risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP, FMEA, Bow-Tie Analysis, and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
• Review engineering designs, processes, and procedures to ensure integration of risk mitigation strategies.
• Create and update risk registers and action plans to mitigate identified risks.
• Analyze incident reports, near misses, and failure data to determine root causes and suggest corrective measures.
• Support insurance risk surveys and interface with insurers, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate risk policies.
• Advise on enhancement of asset integrity, process safety, and operational reliability.
• Prepare detailed risk assessment documentation and communicate findings to stakeholders and senior management.
• Engage in project and design reviews as well as safety studies throughout project phases.
• Stay informed of emerging risks and adopt industry best practices for superior risk management.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, including Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Industrial or related fields.
• Possesses more than 5 years of professional experience in risk engineering, process safety, asset integrity, HSE, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrates strong expertise in risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA, LOPA, and QRA.
• Familiar with global codes, standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Experience working in sectors like Oil & Gas, Power, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Construction, or Utilities.
• Exhibits strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and decision making capabilities.
• Skilled at interpreting engineering drawings, technical documents, and operational data.
• Proficient in utilizing risk assessment and reporting software tools.
• Excellent communication abilities and adeptness in managing stakeholder relationships.
• Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, ISO 31000, CRSP, CSP or equivalents are beneficial.
• Capable of collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
• Strong skills in report writing and delivering presentations.
