Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Estimator to become part of the Higgins team based in Hamilton, Waikato. This position involves managing bids and tenders for civil construction projects in the Waikato area, with project values reaching up to $20 million. The incumbent will oversee the entire tender and pricing process, collaborating closely with operations teams, suppliers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately preparing tenders, estimates, budgets, and pricing strategies within set deadlines.
• Analyzing tender documents to comprehend project scope, identify risks, and understand commercial criteria.
• Carrying out detailed take-offs and costing for labor, plant, materials, and subcontractors.
• Negotiating and obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, while carefully examining assumptions and exclusions.
• Maintaining comprehensive records of tenders, pricing data, and estimation documents.
• Facilitating smooth handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum two years of estimating experience specifically within civil construction.
• Proven background in dealing with civil construction and roading tenders and projects.
• Direct involvement in drafting tenders and bids, including pricing and supportive documentation.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as CCS Candy, Benchmark, Microsoft Project, or equivalents.
• A practical and commercially aware mindset toward pricing and problem resolution.
• Strong organizational capabilities to handle multiple tender processes simultaneously.
• Preferred qualifications include engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, or related fields, although not mandatory.
• Confidence in engaging with clients for bid discussions and addressing tender inquiries.
• Familiarity with NZS 3910 and other standard construction contracts.
