Director, Building Surveying

Role Overview

Gleeds is looking for a highly motivated, chartered building surveyor to lead and expand our Building Surveying division in Edinburgh. This full-time position will spearhead growth initiatives and act as the office lead, driving business through strategic development, new client acquisition, team leadership, and high-quality project delivery. The selected professional will collaborate closely with the Glasgow surveying team and cross-disciplinary colleagues in Edinburgh to develop innovative, client-focused proposals and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and execute business unit strategies and growth plans.
• Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities to increase market share.
• Ensure projects adhere to Gleeds' governance, control procedures, and quality standards.
• Negotiate fees and scope of appointments with management to secure profitable services.
• Maintain strong customer relationships, swiftly managing any concerns or complaints.
• Lead resource planning to guarantee sufficient capacity for project delivery.
• Mentor, manage, and develop team members through performance management and professional growth initiatives.
• Enhance Gleeds' Building Surveying competencies within the company.
• Prepare compelling bids to win new contracts and manage all commercial aspects including invoicing and debt recovery.

Experience and Attributes Required

• Significant post-qualification experience delivering building surveying services in a consultancy setting.
• Deep practical knowledge of construction methods and materials.
• Strong understanding of construction procurement, tendering, and contract administration.
• Experienced in leading, motivating, and mentoring professional teams with a growth-focused mindset.
• Proven networking skills and ability to generate business leads.
• Competence in preparing winning service bids and negotiating profitable fees.
• Clear grasp of legislation relevant to construction contracts and client management at executive levels.

Qualifications

Membership as MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is mandatory.
