Role Overview

The Design Technician is a vital engineering support role within the Building Envelopes and Engineering Services teams. Reporting to a Design Engineer, this position involves assisting with design tasks, technical assessments, and coordinating projects while advancing practical experience and professional engineering skills. The role offers exposure to multi-disciplinary construction projects and emerging building envelope technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical drawings including 2D and 3D models and related supporting documentation.
  • Review and verify design details to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct material research, specify products, and develop minor design solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and technical staff to ensure optimal design quality and constructability.
  • Assist in resolving minor technical queries from site or project teams.
  • Maintain precise records of drawings, specifications, and project correspondence.
  • Support organizing and assembling technical information for project teams.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and design teams to ensure smooth information flow.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to gain hands-on experience with construction methods.
  • Engage in training and continuous professional development programs to build technical knowledge.
  • Develop understanding of building envelope systems, construction standards, and design regulations.
  • Take part in mentoring to enhance skills in design, technical assessment, and project execution.
  • Contribute to capturing lessons learned and best practices to improve future projects.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of building envelope systems and construction principles.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks under supervision.
  • Effective communication and teamwork capabilities, with eagerness to learn from experienced engineers.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and dedicated to establishing a career in construction engineering.
  • Familiarity with CAD or BIM software such as AutoCAD or Revit is advantageous.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership in a relevant professional body is desirable.
