About the Role

We are seeking a chartered building surveyor to join our Scotland regional team in a pivotal role aimed at strengthening our building surveying services. This permanent, full-time position offers hybrid working arrangements based in the Glasgow or Edinburgh offices, at home, or on-site. You will collaborate with an established team to deliver professional surveying services to clients primarily in the commercial and heritage sectors across the central belt and surrounding regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage building surveying assignments including inspections, dilapidation and party wall advice, refurbishments, restorations, maintenance, fit-outs, extensions, and new projects.
  • Support business unit directors in achieving company objectives.
  • Build and nurture strong client relationships in both public and private sectors.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality surveying services that meet client requirements.
  • Oversee project management from feasibility and design through contract administration, completion, and review stages.
  • Conduct quality control for construction projects and coordinate subcontractor appointments per company guidelines.
  • Provide clear, professional advice to clients and project teams.
  • Verify all quantitative and financial information through independent checks prior to issue.
  • Engage in mentoring and coaching colleagues to maximize their development.
  • Prepare bids, manage service profitability, and flag any potential risks relating to professional indemnity insurance.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities to foster growth within the business unit.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must hold MRICS certification (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in building surveying with hands-on knowledge of building survey delivery.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and procurement strategies including contract administration.
  • Knowledgeable about relevant legislation impacting building contracts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organized, adaptable with strong problem-solving, negotiation, financial, and numerical management abilities.
  • Proficient in ICT, particularly MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability to work well within and lead teams.
