Role Overview

As an AI Delivery Engineer in the Developer Experience squad, you will be positioned where strong engineering decisions converge with AI-driven execution. Reporting to the Engineering Manager for Developer Experience, you will develop critical systems relied on by the entire 7shifts engineering team. These include agentic harnesses, essential workflows, and developer tools that support the daily work of 1.5 million restaurant workers.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the entire lifecycle of projects — from identifying the problem, through design, development, iteration, and long-term maintenance, often without detailed specifications.
• Design and deliver backend architectures, data models, and frameworks that are scalable.
• Leverage AI extensively as the main tool to build products: guiding its output, applying expert engineering judgment to vet results, and maintaining high standards for delivery.
• Identify opportunities to enhance speed, optimize costs, and boost adoption of MCP to empower efficient platform delivery.
• Implement and uphold best engineering practices via code and specification reviews, testing protocols, and sound technical decision-making that facilitate learning for fellow developers.
• Translate ambiguous business and developer requirements into technical solutions, proactively highlighting trade-offs and risks to inform team decision-making.
• Mentor squad developers by providing consistent feedback and technical support, not only through reviews but also in problem-solving approaches.

Candidate Qualifications

• Proven experience owning production software, making critical technical decisions under pressure, and learning from real-world consequences.
• Demonstrated expertise with MCP servers, including creating and using orchestrated workflows that exploit server context beyond simple connectors.
• Fluency in integrating AI into the delivery process, using it purposefully to accelerate product development while maintaining quality standards.
• Capacity to convert ambiguous inputs into clear, maintainable solutions within large codebases where errors carry significant cost.
• Strong communication skills, capable of clearly explaining trade-offs to engineering managers and senior leadership, facilitating alignment without constant supervision.
• Self-awareness regarding personal areas for growth, adopting continuous improvement as a fundamental practice.
• A consistent record of elevating those around you by mentoring, reviewing code thoughtfully, sharing actionable technical context, and guiding less experienced developers to think critically.

Desirable Skills

Experience in developing agentic harnesses or control planes is an advantage.

Compensation and Growth

The salary range for this position is CAD 130,000 to 180,000 annually, reflecting progression from building skills to mastering the role. Typically, new hires are positioned at the accomplished level — bringing relevant experience, strong performance, and the ability to deliver impact with minimal ramp-up. Compensation grows alongside skill development and contribution.
