Role Overview
As a Mid-Level Backend Engineer on the Behavioral team, you'll develop the intelligence layer that translates raw customer activity signals into actionable marketing triggers. This involves constructing systems that identify customer behavior patterns—such as cart abandonment and price changes—and automatically initiate messaging campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services that detect patterns in customer events, correlate signals within specific timeframes, and evaluate trigger eligibility.
- Build stateful systems maintaining behavioral context over temporal windows to recognize user actions like incomplete transactions and multiple event signals.
- Take ownership from design through deployment by delivering complex backend features, ensuring high quality code and system reliability.
- Create reusable pattern frameworks supporting declarative or rule-based behavioral trigger definitions for easy configuration and extensibility.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to seamlessly integrate behavioral signals into campaign orchestration and message delivery platforms.
- Maintain operational excellence by monitoring system performance, reliability, and incident response through observability tools, metrics, logging, and alerts.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum three years of professional experience in software engineering, with proven competence developing and maintaining backend or platform systems in production.
- Expertise in designing and managing distributed, event-driven, and high-scale backend architectures.
- Hands-on development of stateful services, asynchronous real-time decision systems, and operational reliability in live environments.
- Proficient with Kafka for event streaming and gRPC for microservice communication.
- Experience working with analytics databases optimized for performance, such as ClickHouse.
- Deep understanding of distributed system complexities including partitioning, retries, event duplication, ordering, idempotency, backfills, and data consistency trade-offs.
- Experience deploying scalable backend software in cloud infrastructures like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Strong commitment to operational robustness with competencies in monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident handling.
- Collaborative, product-focused mindset balancing technical excellence and customer outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Rust or Elixir programming languages.
- Experience with customer behavioral tracking software development kits (SDKs).
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is $119,300 to $155,000 and may include bonuses based on role and experience. Benefits include comprehensive medical and financial plans among others. Salary offered is commensurate with job-related skills and experience.
