Role Overview
As a Data Engineer at Movable Ink based in Toronto, you will guide the future development of our Enterprise Data Warehouse. You will collaborate hands-on with cross-functional teams to facilitate access to relevant data and enable data-driven decisions that steer business strategy. Operating on data from billions of daily campaign requests, this role requires managing and interpreting large-scale data processing challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain multi-source ELT pipelines optimized for cost efficiency while adhering to data SLAs.
- Enhance and maintain Data Warehouse infrastructure to reduce manual interventions, boost performance, and lessen incident frequency and impact.
- Work closely with data platform, product engineering, and analytics teams to understand requirements and deliver dependable data products.
- Collaborate with the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to ensure uninterrupted delivery of services to business partners.
- Aggregate and integrate event data with internal business systems to support critical business decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a Data Engineer.
- Proficient with columnar/OLAP databases operating at petabyte scale.
- Accomplished in operationalizing data pipelines including monitoring setup, alerting, SLA dashboards, and production runbooks.
- Skilled in building automation and tooling for database management and maintenance.
- Expertise in modern ELT tools such as dbt, Airbyte, Flink, and orchestration platforms like Airflow or Dagster.
- In-depth technical knowledge of Kimball and medallion data architectures.
- Experience programming in high-level languages such as Python, Java, and SQL.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Competent using version control systems such as git.
- Experience practicing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools including Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalents.
Preferred Skills
- Experience implementing APIs, Reverse ETL processes, and managing data contracts.
- Extensive experience with AWS services and managed offerings including Redshift, Aurora, Airflow, and Flink.
- Working knowledge of data visualization platforms such as Tableau.
- Experience managing data lakes using open-source file formats like Iceberg.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary for this position ranges from 125000 to 170000 USD annually, with potential bonuses depending on the final role. Benefits include comprehensive medical, financial, and other advantageous programs. Salary offerings depend on the candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
