Role Overview

As an Intermediate Software Developer on our mid-market squad, you will be part of the foundational engineering group responsible for creating complex systems that support multi-location restaurant groups with layered permission requirements and comprehensive operational insights. You will take end-to-end ownership of features from design to deployment, making pragmatic technical decisions and collaborating closely with product managers, data teams, and leadership. Your work will include building new data structures and pipelines, and creating scalable permission systems that support role-based access control.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain data models and pipelines enabling rollup reporting for restaurant groups spanning multiple locations, working full stack from database schema to deployed features.
• Develop and contribute to new authorization and permissions systems, implementing components in line with architectural patterns and addressing issues proactively.
• Integrate AI-assisted development tools into regular workflow for code generation, review, and validation with a high standard of quality.
• Collaborate effectively with senior engineers, product teams, and data specialists to translate requirements into practical and maintainable solutions.
• Manage production incidents by leading investigations and resolving bugs and problems reported by customers.
• Foster engineering culture by participating actively in technical discussions and continuously enhancing processes and standards.
• Own projects fully from conception to delivery, making responsible technical decisions and consistently delivering impactful results.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or related fields.
• Has professional experience developing, deploying, and maintaining web applications and services within collaborative teams.
• Comfortable working in evolving and greenfield codebases, capable of progressing without having fully defined specifications and knowing when to seek clarification.
• Strong foundational knowledge of relational databases and backend development, enough to contribute productively to data modeling and permissions system builds.
• Demonstrated history of delivering high-quality code with strong ownership, seeing work through from start to completion beyond just code review stages.
• Excellent communication skills, especially in ambiguous situations, with the ability to identify and report blockers early and keep stakeholders informed.
• Proactive and self-managed work ethic, skilled in prioritizing tasks and making sound technical trade-offs with guidance.
• Practical experience using AI tools like Claude as an integrated part of development rather than experimentation.
• A customer-centric approach with genuine enthusiasm for building effective products that solve real-world challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with data lake or warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or AWS equivalents.
• Background working in environments demanding accuracy, reliability, and real-time data considerations.
• Experience within restaurant technology, delivering solutions focused on customer success.
• Familiarity with Elixir in production environments is a plus.

Additional Information

This position is a current opening within our hiring plan based out of Toronto, Ontario and offers a remote working arrangement. 7shifts provides a progressive compensation package ranging from CAD $95,000 to $135,000 annually reflecting role growth from core skill development through mastery. Compensation is performance and growth-based, with room to advance as skills and impact increase.
