Overview
Join Datadog as a Staff Engineer in the Compute—Disruption and Workload Placement team to shape how our Kubernetes environment scales to meet the demands of fast-growing AI and cloud-native workloads across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. This impactful technical role involves directing capacity orchestration, steering platform design, and tackling infrastructure problems that underpin Datadog's expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for capacity handling and workload placement on Datadog's Kubernetes platform operating over 100,000 virtual machines across multiple cloud providers.
- Architect and implement systems that optimize workload deployment and scheduling across regions, balancing capacity, reliability, and performance factors.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to develop multi-region, multi-cloud capacity orchestration as Datadog expands.
- Create production-level software in Go aimed at enhancing Kubernetes platform automation, capabilities, and operational efficiency.
- Analyze data and capacity metrics to guide infrastructure strategy, predict growth, and refine workload placement approaches.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive background in designing and managing large Kubernetes-based infrastructure or platform systems.
- Proficient software engineer with solid programming expertise, preferably in Go or a similar systems-level language.
- Direct experience with at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and a strong understanding of distributed cloud infrastructure.
- A systemic thinker passionate about resolving complex scheduling, infrastructure, and capacity management challenges.
- Comfortable interpreting operational data and forecasting capacity to inform engineering choices.
- Proven ability to lead technically and influence architectural decisions across teams without formal managerial authority.
