About the Role
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.'s Multimedia R&D and Standards Group is recruiting Video Compression Research Engineers to join a globally recognized team of video compression specialists. This team focuses on developing cutting-edge algorithms, hardware architectures, and systems by applying both traditional and machine learning techniques to video compression, video processing, point cloud coding, augmented and virtual reality, and computer vision applications. Candidates will work on advancing video compression technology, including enhancing state-of-the-art codecs using classical and AI methods.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize sophisticated algorithms to enhance video compression performance.
- Engage in research and development of AI-driven compression tools.
- Represent Qualcomm in prominent video coding standardization groups like JVET, MPEG Video, and ITU-T/VCEG.
- Prepare documentation and presentations for new algorithms and implementations across patent applications, standards submissions, conferences, and journals.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Deep expertise in video and image coding theories, algorithms, and technical standards, including HEVC and VVC.
- Experience with deep learning models, such as CNNs, RNNs, and autoencoders.
- Proven research contributions demonstrated by publications or patents in video coding or processing domains.
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming alongside familiarity with at least one machine learning framework like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Strong communication skills in English, robust work ethic, and collaborative team orientation.
- Educational credentials including Master's or PhD degrees with relevant experience in video compression, image/video processing, computer vision, or machine learning.
- Minimum qualifications vary: Bachelor's degree with six or more years of relevant engineering experience; or Master's degree with five years; or PhD with four years of relevant professional experience.
- Degree fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related disciplines.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $179,000 to $268,400 annually. This figure represents the minimum and maximum pay scales for the position’s location. Qualcomm also offers other compensation components such as discretionary annual bonuses and restricted stock unit grants (note: sales-incentive employees are ineligible for annual bonuses).
