Utility Locator

Overview

USIC is seeking dedicated individuals who enjoy working outdoors and want to start a meaningful career in utility locating. This role involves independent fieldwork focused on identifying and marking underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer lines. USIC is a well-known leader in infrastructure protection, completing over 84 million locate requests annually for a wide range of utility clients across the United States. We prioritize safety, quality, and innovative solutions to protect vital infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

• Accurately and safely identify underground utility lines across telecommunications, power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer sectors.
• Conduct thorough site investigations within assigned areas and mark the precise locations of utilities.
• Complete all relevant documentation and take photographs of each locate to ensure clear records and communication with stakeholders.
• Operate primarily during daytime hours but be prepared to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and participate in on-call shifts as required by business needs, including nights and weekends.

Tools and Environment

Technicians work independently in the field, provided a company vehicle and equipment including advanced technology for managing tickets and claims to ensure efficient and accurate mark-outs at excavation sites.

Candidate Requirements

• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Technologically proficient to manage digital systems related to locating tickets and documentation.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call periods.
• Pass required drug screenings because of the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Physically capable of working in confined spaces and able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish color codes used for identifying wiring and marking utilities.
• Competent in reading and interpreting locate tickets, maps, and site prints.
• Effective verbal communication skills for interaction with team members, contractors, customers, and homeowners.

• Starting wage of $19.00 per hour.
