Role Overview

The Software Engineer will focus on enhancing JD.com’s retail software services for its platform JoyBuy, targeting operations across European countries such as the UK, Germany, Netherlands, and France. This role entails working cross-functionally with product managers, platform teams, retail application developers, and business units in a fast-evolving international setting spanning Europe and China.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and scale JD retail platforms and services emphasizing high performance, reliability, concurrency, security, and scalability.
• Proactively identify and manage technical risks during project cycles, implementing control strategies that improve monitoring, maintainability, and support safe deployments with rollback capabilities.
• Enhance operational excellence by expanding JD’s technical capabilities to benefit business partners.
• Innovate by researching and implementing new technologies and methodologies to improve user experience, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Pinpoint integration possibilities between emerging technologies and company-wide architectures to promote technical advancement and strong architectural strategies.
• Reinforce software development standards, procedures, and planning across multiple teams and business stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with key stakeholders in designing and defining service development roadmaps.
• Communicate clearly and effectively the technical strategy, design rationale, and decisions across diverse teams.
• Mentor and support junior engineers’ professional growth and skill improvements.
• Perform duties onsite in locations such as London, Berlin, or Düsseldorf.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of practical software development experience.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and sustain robust and scalable applications.
• Expertise in server-side programming using Java and Kotlin with comprehensive understanding of API design, including GraphQL and RESTful services.
• Knowledge of microservices architectures and cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools such as Jenkins, Spinnaker, or GitHub Actions.
• Fluency in English communication.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working within large-scale e-commerce organizations.
• Background in tools for suppliers and merchants.
• Familiarity with business environments in the UK and Europe.
• Proficiency in Chinese language is considered an advantage.
