Overview

The Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray is dedicated to the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, inspection, assembly, storage, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments. This department plays a vital role in preventing infections and ensuring patient safety by processing equipment following established protocols, regulatory mandates, and manufacturer guidelines. MDRD operates in a fast-paced, detail-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect used, contaminated equipment, case carts, and instruments and deliver them to the MDRD.
• Load and unload washers, disinfectors, and cart washers following established procedures and infection control standards.
• Prepare, organize, and distribute sterilized surgical instruments to designated locations.
• Pick instruments for operating room case carts.
• Support MDRD daily operations by carrying out assigned tasks adhering to safety, quality assurance, and infection control requirements.
• Maintain efficient workflow by ensuring accurate and timely processing of equipment, carts, and instruments.
• Transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood products, and patient charts within the hospital as needed.
• Distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units.
• Clean equipment and patient care areas per instructions.
• Report supply concerns and safety issues to Unit Managers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers competitive pay ranging between $22.33 and $24.38 per hour. In addition, employees receive a Fort McMurray Allowance up to an annual maximum of $12,480, paid hourly based on basic pay rate. This allowance is non-pensionable.

Work Schedule

• Full-time temporary position with an 8-month duration.
• Standard shift length is 7.75 hours.
• Shift rotations include days, evenings, nights, weekends with days off as per rotation.
• 40 shifts per cycle over 8 weeks.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Additional and preferred qualifications as demanded by the role.
