Job description

About Lumilens

Lumilens is pioneering critical photonics infrastructure aimed at enabling next-generation AI supercomputing. The company develops high-speed photonics products such as optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines designed to significantly improve computing speed, reduce cooling needs, and enhance efficiency. Backed by Mayfield and spearheaded by seasoned industry veterans, Lumilens offers an opportunity to innovate from the silicon level up, addressing complex challenges in optical system scalability for AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.

Role Overview

The Senior/Staff Process Engineer will lead the development and management of manufacturing processes for Lumilens' optical transceiver portfolio, including advanced 800G and 1.6T modules. This role entails end-to-end ownership of processes within key assembly operations such as die attach, wire bonding, active alignment, and overall assembly — from initial development to high-volume manufacturing. Collaboration with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and internal teams is essential to ramp up new products, drive continuous improvements, and meet production quality and efficiency goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, optimize, and implement manufacturing processes for optical transceiver assembly to meet targets for yield, throughput, efficiency, defect reduction, and quality.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation including process specifications, work instructions, control plans, and FMEA; oversee approval of all process modifications on production lines.
  • Manage all manufacturing changes concerning product, materials, equipment, and process under stringent change control consistent with quality management standards.
  • Lead selection and introduction of new equipment by defining requirements, collaborating with suppliers, and supporting development of hardware and software from acceptance to manufacturing release.
  • Work closely with design engineering and manufacturing teams to execute and refine manufacturing processes ensuring Design for Manufacturing principles are embedded.
  • Coordinate with quality assurance for qualification, reliability testing, and burn-in procedures to support new product launches and process modifications.
  • Perform detailed analysis of process data and yield metrics to diagnose impacts and implement corrective or preventive measures for assembly processes.
  • Compile, interpret, and present process performance reports summarizing trends and key findings.
  • Pursue automation opportunities within manufacturing to facilitate scale-up and sustain high-volume production capacity.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience concentrated in high-volume optical transceiver or laser manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a hands-on approach to developing manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials for optical assemblies.
  • Deep expertise in at least one transceiver assembly process such as die attach, wire bonding, active optical alignment, general assembly, product testing, or burn-in operations.
  • Proficiency in data analytics, statistical process control, and technical reporting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems and adherence to relevant standards.
  • Competency in failure analysis specific to optical components and familiarity with associated tools and protocols.
  • Experience working effectively within cross-cultural, geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong English communication skills for verbal, written, and presentation contexts including virtual and in-person settings.
  • Willingness and availability for international travel.
