Position Summary
Amid New Zealand's push towards a low-carbon energy future, we are looking for a skilled Senior to Principal Power Systems Engineer to enhance our expanding Power division. This role centers on conducting grid connection and commissioning analyses for renewable energy systems such as wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), alongside emerging technology integrations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive power system analyses for renewable projects, including load flow, fault level, transient stability, electromagnetic transient (EMT), and harmonic studies.
- Create, verify, and update network models utilizing DigSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD software.
- Support the grid connection process by ensuring conformity with Transpower, electricity distribution businesses (EDB), and relevant grid code requirements.
- Contribute to the conceptualization and optimization of renewable generation and storage solutions.
- Develop detailed technical documentation and reports for clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams on both New Zealand-based and international projects.
- Engage with clients, facilitating technical dialogues and providing innovative engineering solutions.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Practical experience in power systems engineering within renewable energy, utilities, consultancy, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proficient with power system modeling tools, including DigSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD.
- Strong expertise in power system analysis, modeling techniques, and Python scripting.
- Experience in supporting grid connection evaluations for wind, solar, or BESS projects is a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge of New Zealand and international grid codes and standards.
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Self-driven with ability to juggle multiple priorities efficiently.
