Senior Software Developer (R&D) – Digital Aviation

As a Senior Software Developer, you will contribute to the creation of cloud-based, data-driven solutions for baggage handling and airport logistics. Working on Vanderlande's OpenAir platform and the Aviation Data Hub, you will focus on building scalable, secure, and forward-looking cloud applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop cloud-native applications using Node.js for backend and Vue.js (or equivalent) for frontend.
• Integrate various services with OpenAir and the Aviation Data Hub to enable real-time data sharing and analytics.
• Maintain modular architecture ensuring scalability and interoperability within Vanderlande’s digital aviation ecosystem.
• Lead software architecture definition and enforce best practices tailored for cloud aviation logistics solutions.
• Serve as a design authority, collaborating with stakeholders and steering technical choices across the development team.
• Create innovative services for predictive analytics, real-time system monitoring, and optimizing baggage handling workflows.
• Partner with airport stakeholders to advance the digitalization and streamlining of operational processes.
• Ensure compliance with aviation safety and cybersecurity standards throughout development.
• Promote CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps techniques for deployments on AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
• Mentor junior developers, oversee code quality via reviews, and inspire a culture of continuous innovation and improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 8 years professional experience in software engineering including leadership roles.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js, Vue.js or similar frontend frameworks, alongside experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Hands-on expertise in microservices design, API-first development, test-driven development, and container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with data platforms, data streaming architectures, and IoT integrations.
• Knowledge of aviation domain or logistics systems will be considered an advantage.
• Additional technical knowledge in tools and frameworks such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and security protocols like OAuth and JWT is beneficial.

Preferred Credentials

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience in platform engineering, analytics, and data-driven service development.
• Understanding of Vanderlande’s automation solutions and airport operations is a plus.
• Experience utilizing AI technologies to enhance the software development lifecycle.
